How can you help me improve my digital records of my facility?
Mike was given the role as new facility manager for his organization. As a part of his new role, Mike was responsible for all the assets located within the building, including maintenance and capital budgeting.
Shortly after Mike began his new role, he discovered that his company was looking for ways to reduce their insurance costs. Early efforts for reducing costs included the updated safety programs and implementing additional processes around increased safety awareness. The corporate safety team implemented training programs for new employees, and continuing education for existing staff. The new employee on-boarding process was much better than what they had previously, but there was still an issue involving creating an awareness of where specific stations were located, as each corporate location was different. With the plant configuration changing frequently, Mike needed to find a way to provide a visual of what the safety stations looked like and a means of updating as needed. Mike reached out to a partner who specialized in helping facilities create visual documentation.
Mike worked with his new partner to establish what visual resources would be valuable to his new employees, and they created a plan utilizing web-based 3D models for a visual that could be documented to include specific details around designated spaces.
As a result of this initiative and investment, Mike was able to provide a visual model to support his web-based safety program. Leadership saw his unique model and documentation of their fork lift station and made it a standard across all plants, to bring awareness to the unique layouts of each plant. The 3D models also provided the data needed to generate updated floorplans to be used for emergency exits and safety stations. Mike now has money budgeted to scan his whole facility so that he has the as-built data needed for a future remodel. This data will help reduce the cost of construction documentation and mitigate risk associated with all their projects.
